RESUMEN

El tratamiento de las reabsorciones o atrofias del maxilar superior en su sector posterior, presenta un gran desafío tanto para el cirujano oral y maxilofacial como para el rehabilitador oral. Objetivo: el objetivo de este estudio clínico fue evaluar el implante cigomático utilizado unilateralmente para la confección de prótesis fijas de 1, 3, 4 y 5 componentes. Materiales y Métodos: se incorporaron 15 pacientes, los cuales fueron evaluados retrospectivamente tras 2 años de seguimiento. Se colocaron un total de 15 implantes cigomáticos y 26 convencionales. Resultados: se observó un éxito del 100% tanto para las fijaciones cigomáticas como para las convencionales. Conclusión: el implante cigomático es una buena alternativa a los injertos óseos en el tratamiento de las reabsorciones moderadas a severas del sector posterior del maxilar superior. SUMMARY

The treatment of posterior maxillary resorption or atrophy presents a great challenge for the oral and maxillofacial surgeon and the oral rehabilitator. Purpose: the purpose of the present clinical study was to evaluate the zygomatic implant used unilaterally for the construction 1, 3, 4 and 5 component fixed prostheses. Materials and Methods: 15 patients were included and evaluated retrospectively after 2 years follow up. A total of 15 zygomatic and 26 conventional implants were placed. Results: a 100% success rate was observed for both conventional and zygomatic implants. Conclusion: the zygomatic implant is a good alternative to bone grafts in the treatment of moderate to severe maxillary resorptions. Key Words: zygomatic implants, maxillary resorption, sinus lift.
