RESUMEN

Los parámetros de estética dictados por la sociedad obligan a las personas a buscar, cada vez más, armonía dento-facial. En consecuencia, se incrementó el número de tratamientos estéticos relacionados a cambios de forma, posición y color de los dientes. Una alteración estética de etiología múltiple, encontrada frecuentemente en la clínica odontológica y que a menudo afecta la composición dento-facial, es el diastema anterior. La evolución de los sistemas restauradores adhesivos, principalmente en relación a la estabilidad de color y su resistencia al desgaste, posibilitan la obtención de resultados estéticos y funcionales excelentes, por medio de tratamientos mínimamente invasivos. De esta manera, el objetivo de este artículo es presentar un protocolo para el tratamiento de diastemas anteriores, así como los aspectos relevantes relacionados a su etiología y forma de tratamiento. SUMMARY

Aesthetic parameters dictated by the society have been obliging patients to seek for dentofacial harmony even more. As a consequence, the number of aesthetic treatments related to changes in teeth shape, position and color has increased. An aesthetic alteration of multiple etiologies f requently found in clinical dentistry that affects the dentofacial harmony is the anterior diastema. With the evolution of the direct restorative systems, mainly related to their color stability and wear resistance, minimally invasive treatments with excellent aesthetic and functional outcomes have been possible. Thus, the aim of this work is to present a protocol for the treatment of anterior diastemas, as well as the most relevant clinical aspects related to their etiology and treatment planning.
