Summary
The purpose of this research is to develop new 3D anatomical teaching materials covering the entire human body. As part of this effort, we have completed an educational CD-ROM with information about the human cranium. We scanned a Japanese adult dry skull with CT (TOSHIBA ASPTION SUPER 4) and processed the resulting data with software to render the surface and to create a simple movie display with sound. The accuracy of these 3D images of the cranium is unprecedented. The CD-ROM incorporates software and data so that users can interactively manipulative the image on the computer screen to create any viewing angle. These features greatly facilitate observational learning by students. We feel this CD-ROM will be a welcome addition to the existing set of anatomical teaching materials.
