ABSTRACT
We apply the training of periodontal treatment planning by using PBL-small group discussion (PBL-SGD) to the 4th grade students in Kanagawa Dental College. In this study, we report the valuable to this PBL-SGD system in the 6-years data from 2002-2007. Each facilitator treats to 9-10 students. Students pick up the clinical problems and look for these causes in the chart, X-ray film and oral photographs, according to KJ manner. Then they tried to make the planning for periodontal treatment according to the two-dimensional analysis consisted of the emergency and importance factors. Students and facilitators answered the each questionnaire after the practice. Then students received the lecture of the treatment process for this practice. The results of questionnaire, this PBL-SGD system obtained the high value and interesting from students and facilitators. This study shows usefulness of the PBL-SGD for periodontal treatment planning.
