ABSTRACT

The pyogenic granuloma, frequently found at the dental clinic, is considered a non neoplastic reational proliferative process that can compromise skin and mucosas. In the mouth it is commonly found in the gingivae, but can present in the tongue, palatine and buccal mucosas. Frequently its is associated to chronic local irritant factors of low intensity. Surgical excision of the lesion and removal of local irritant factors, as periodontal diseases, dental plaque and calculus, lead us to the necessity of knowledge and identification by the dentist, being the purpose of this article. The clinical and histopathological features, prevalence, differential diagnosis, etiopathogenesis and treatment modalities were reviewed. RESUMO

Frequente na clìnica odontològica, o granuloma piogênico è considerado um processo proliferativo reacional não neoplàsico, podendo acometer a pele e mucosas. Na boca è comum na gengiva, mas pode acometer a lìngua e as mucosas palatina e jugal. Seu desenvolvimento normalmente està associado a fatores irritativos locais crônicos de baixa intensidade. A exèrese cirùrgica da lesão, associada à remoção dos fatores irritativos locais, como as doenças periodontais, biofilme e càlculos dentàrios usualmente presentes, retrata a necessidade do conhecimento e identificação do cirurgião-dentista, que è a proposta deste trabalho. Revisou-se as caracterìsticas clinicas e histopatològicas, incidência e frequência, diagnòstico diferencial, etiopatogenia e modalidades de tratamentos inerentes à lesão.
