ABSTRACT
We have been evaluating and attempting to improve WWW-based educational materials since 2002. Student usage of the Internet appears to have undergone a major change in response to the rapid progress that has been made information technologies. In order to assess improvement in this new information resource, we conducted a survey on student use of the Internet and the educational WWW and compared the information obtained with that for 2002. The survey targeted 3 rd, 5 th and 6 th grade students of Tokyo Dental College and was given in January and February 2004. Valid answers were obtained from 358 students (90. 4%). Rate of student PC use and amount of time spent on the Internet were found to have increased compared to that in 2002. Approximately half the students surveyed were using the educational WWW at home in 2004. Rate and purpose of use of educational WWW varied depending on student year. This suggests the necessity of improving such materials according to the needs of each student year. "Increases in visual materials including animations and photos" and "increase in data transmission rate" were requested by a great number of the students surveyed. These results were similar to those obtained for 2002. This suggests that there in still further need for improvement.(The Shikwa Gakuho, 105 : 609-615, 2005)
